- recto b.l.c.: MJA; verso: GORSEBROOK HOUSE / TOWER ROAD, HALIFAX, N. S. / 1812 - 1959 / THIS WAS THE HOME AND ESTATE OF ENOS COLLINS, PRIVATEER, MERCHANT, SHIPPING AND BANKING MAGNATE FROM 1812 - 1871. IT REMAINED A PRIVATE HOME FOR MANY YEARS, THEN WAS USED AS A CLUB HOUSE FOR THE GORSEBROOK GOLF CLUB, UNTIL THE PROPERTY WAS BOUGHT BY ST. MARYS UNIVERSITY.INTERESTED CITIZENS, AT THAT TIME, TRIED TO PRESERVE THIS CHARMING HOUSE WITH THE EXCELLENT EXAMPLES OF ADAM DESIGN IN THE INTERIOR, BUT WERE UNABLE TO DO SO. THIS GROUP THEN FORMED THE HERITAGE TRUST OF NOVA SCOTIA, AS THEY REALIZED THAT MUCH OF HISTORIC VALUE, IN THE CITY, WAS DISAPPEARING IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF HIGH RISE BUILDINGS. THROUGH THEIR EFFORTS, SINCE THEN, SEVERAL UNIQUE AND INTERESTING BUILDINGS HAVE BEEN SAVED AND PLANS ARE MADE TO USE THEM IN A PRACTICAL WAY. IN THIS WAY THE BEST OF THE 18TH & 19TH CENTURY WILL BE RETAINED AND PROVIDE CONTRAST WITH THE DESIGNS OF THE 20TH CENTURY.facing page: Season's Greetings (ink type) / personal note and Signature: Andy & Morna
