#1: "Linda and I met in college in the early '70s. At this time the natural world represented an alternative lifestyle but in many ways it was simply a refuge. I followed her to a canoe camp up north and spent the next three summers working there." #2: "Seeing and experiencing phenomena of the natural world was a sign of honour and privilege." #3: "Physical strength and endurance meant everything when you were on the trail. Keeping up was always a struggle." #4: "Individual personalities developed in specialized directions after spending time in isolated surroundings. Learning about myself was only slightly less frightening than learning about the people around me."
