Loans On Campus Program

The Dalhousie Art Gallery’s Loans on Campus program represents one way in which members of the university community can share in the gallery’s permanent collection. For a small annual fee (to cover handling and insurance) original art works can be selected by Dalhousie Staff and Faculty to be placed in their offices, meeting rooms or departments’ public spaces.

The Dalhousie Art Gallery’s permanent collection contains over 1400 works including contemporary and historical paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, photography, mixed media works and artifacts, both Canadian and International in origin. Many of these artworks do not often get exhibited in permanent collection shows due to the volume of works in the vault. The loans on campus program allows for artworks that may not get exhibited often to be displayed and enjoyed by the members of the Dalhousie Community.

Works are often placed in offices and meeting rooms, but more importantly can be hung in public spaces such as libraries, the learning commons, study spaces and in foyers on campus. The gallery’s Registrar/Preparator Michele Gallant helps to determine which works would be the most appropriate for each space alongside the borrower. The artworks can be borrowed for 1 year and loans can be renewed.

If you would like any more information regarding the Loans on Campus Program or if you are interested in borrowing artworks, please contact Michele Gallant at mgallan2@dal.ca.
