Saturday 13 September - Blood Simple

USA, 1984, 99 minutes. A private detective, a couple under some strain and a boyfriend who just won’t die. These are the ingredients for the Coen Brothers’ terse debut, an American Indie neo-noir landmark.

Sunday 14 September - Miller’s Crossing

USA, 1990, 115 minutes. The Coen Brothers revisit the gangster genre with this costumer set during the Depression–one of their favourite eras–starring Albert Finney and Gabriel Byrne.

Monday 15 September - Fargo

USA, 1996, 98 minutes. Skillfully blending crime and absurdity, Fargo’s wintery North Dakota setting has now inspired an acclaimed new TV series named, of course, Fargo.

Tuesday 16 September - The Big Lebowski

USA, 1998, 117 minutes. A flop on first release but now an established cult classic, The Big Lebowski follows an easy-going bowler as he tangles with drug dealers and the rest of the world’s overbearing sense of responsibility.

Wednesday 17 September - O Brother, Where Art Thou?

USA, 2000, 106 minutes. The Great Depression is again the setting for this musical retelling of Homer’s Odyssey, with George Clooney, John Turturro and John Goodman all on board.
