Diverse Curatorial Toolkit: A Living Guide for Practice, Mentorship, Anti-Racism, and Institutional Accountability

The Diverse Curatorial Toolkit: A Living Guide for Practice, Mentorship, Anti-Racism, and Institutional Accountability was developed as part of Pathways to Equity: Black and Indigenous Curatorial Mentorships and Cultural Leaderships Initiative, a Dalhousie Art Gallery mentorship project supported by Canadian Heritage through the Multiculturalism and Anti-Racism Program from 2025–2026. Rather than treating mentorship solely as professional training, the toolkit positions curatorial mentorship as a form of institutional learning. Drawing on the experiences of mentors, mentees, artists, and community partners, it offers practical strategies and reflections for museums, galleries, and cultural organizations seeking to build more equitable approaches to curatorial practice, cultural leadership, and long-term institutional change.
