Kim Morgan: Blood and Breath, Skin and Dust

The exhibition Kim Morgan: Blood and Breath, Skin and Dust focused on eight years of Halifax-based interdisciplinary artist Kim Morgan’s research and artistic production employing electron microscopy. Immersive installations, sculptural objects, and sound and video works reflect the artist’s interest in using advanced technologies to explore materiality and the body. Informed by the experience of vibrant matter at the microscopic level these intriguing works offered encounters in human-scaled space and time, and an opportunity to bridge the gap between science, medicine, and art.

The accompanying exhibition catalogue features an insightful essay by Curator Susan Gibson Garvey that provides a comprehensive exploration of the individual materials used by Morgan to create the art works; blood, breath, skin, and dust. In addition to these material elements, Gibson Garvey writes about “Site” and the artist’s use of spaces outside of gallery walls to engage audiences and provide new contexts for both the work and the site. Beautifully designed and generously illustrated, the catalogue features full-page, colour reproductions of the works in the exhibition and Morgan’s three offsite interventions leading up to the solo exhibition.

The catalogue is available for purchase in-person at Dalhousie Art Gallery. It is also available in-person and online through King's Co-op Bookstore.
