Revolution or Reinventing the Wheel

Alongside Dalhousie Art Gallery’s exhibition "Why are we saving All these artist publications + Other Galleries stuffs?" Becky Welter-Nolan digs into Eyelevel Gallery’s archives to find patterns in the gallery’s programming and conversations. By revisiting and recreating these repetitions, Welter-Nolan asks if the artist-run centre is evolving or revolving.

Welter-Nolan’s month-long project begins with an installation that invites viewers to rest, soothed by a soundscape of board conversations about the many displacements of Eyelevel Gallery. The project will build over the course of the exhibition period to include artworks, performances, and conversations that echo throughout the gallery’s archives.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Becky Welter-Nolan is a Halifax based interdisciplinary artist raised in Selwyn, ON. She received her BFA from NSCAD University in 2011 and works at Saint Mary's University Art Gallery. Her work has been shown at the White Rabbit Open Air Artist Residency, Eyelevel Gallery and the Centre for Art Tapes. She is part of the HERMES Artist Co-operative.
