Samuel Beckett: Teleplays
In addition to his well-known plays, such as Waiting for Godot and Endgame, Samuel Beckett wrote, or specifically adapted, works for film and television. This unique exhibition of videotapes includes eight such works in stylistically distinct groupings: the Evergreen Theatre productions of the 1960s directed by Alan Schneider in New York; the BBC productions of the late 1970s; and the more recent Stuttgart productions, directed by Beckett himself.
An informative, eighty-page catalogue accompanies this exhibit, which was curated by Stan Douglas for the Vancouver Art Gallery, and circulated with the generous assistance of the Canada Council. This travelling exhibition was made possible at the Dalhousie Art Gallery with the financial support of the Dalhousie University Departments of Theatre and French; Richard Raymond for the Dalhousie University English Department; the D’Arcy McGee Chair of Irish Studies at Saint Mary’s University; and Mr. Fred Fountain.
