The Woman Condemned

23 January, 2018, 7:00pm

The B-Moviemaker, aka Mrs. Wallace Reid, delivers a low-budget mystery with plenty of plot twists and turns concerning the apparent murder of a female radio celebrity.

Part of the series:

Women Filmmakers 1931-1969

CURATED BY RON FOLEY MACDONALD

In the first installment of this year-long series focussing on women filmmakers, we survey films by female directors, from the early ‘talkies’ to the wilder challenges of the late 1960s. Female directors have always been the exception to the rule in this male-dominated industry. However, from Leni Riefenstahl’s first self-directed film The Blue Light to the studio exploits of Dorothy Arzner to the visual and narrative inquiries of Shirley Clarke and Agnès Varda, this series will offer proof of continuity of women at the helm of ground breaking cinematic projects through the middle of the 20th Century.

Screenings Tuesdays at 7 PM in the MacAloney Room, 4th floor, Dalhousie Arts Centre. Free admission.
