5 February - The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975
Göran Olsson, Sweden, 2011, 100 minutes. Frank interviews and footage of major post-Martin Luther King African-American figures such as Angela Davis, Stokely Carmichael and Bobby Seale, conducted by sympathetic Swedes for European broadcast, make for an astonishing time capsule and blast of hidden history.

Nouvelle Vague Landmarks: The French New Wave and the reach for new cinematic expression
The French New Wave changed the cinema completely, from how we make movies to how we watch them. Initiated by film critics from the magazine Cahiers du Cinéma, the Nouvelle Vague led to films shot on the cheap about contemporary subjects on one hand, while playfully re-imagining genres such as Science Fiction and musicals on the other.
CFAT September Artist Talk Series: Bethany Riorden-Butterworth & Ella Tetrault
CFAT will host a talk given by CFAT Curators in Residence Bethany Riorden-Butterworth & Ella Tetrault will launch a digital exploration of their Fuller Terrace Lecture Series; a bi-weekly lecture held in the backyard of 2664 Fuller Terrace and is based around the idea of sharing stories and experiences with members of the community. The duo will also host a lecture with special guests from cultural groups who have adapted similar operational models of presentations.

In honour of Symphony Nova Scotia’s 30th anniversary, we present a short selection of cinematic biographies—from the 1940s up to the current decade—of classical composers.
CFAT September Artist Talk Series: Paul Wong & J.J. Kegan McFadden
Prismatic, CFAT and Saint Mary's University Art Gallery will partner for an artist talk and screening of Vancouver-based video artist Paul Wong. Part one: Paul Wong Double Bill: Two Sides of the Same Coin: program of 10 video shorts curated by Winnipeg-based curator J.J. Kegan McFadden entitled home-style. Part two: an artist talk on the artist's recent projects where Wong will also discuss a recent curatorial project, THE LONG TIME, an exhibition and publication featuring recent work of Lisa Steele & Kim Tomzcak.
CFAT September Artist Talk Series: James Geurts
Visiting New Media Artist in Residence James Geurts (Australia) joins a panel discussion on the Dalhousie Exhibit Place Markers-Mapping Locations and Probing Boundaries. Geurts' artwork Drawing: Tidal Continuum, investigates how tidal forces reflect and stimulate subtle states of perception.
CFAT September Artist Talk Series: Melanie Colosimo & Michael McCormack & Tom Sherman
CFAT Local Artist Resident, Melanie Colosimo has been working on a video animation project using miniatures and paper cut-outs. Colosimo's artwork explores themes of reflective nostalgia and displacement. CFAT's local electronics resident Michael McCormack created Field, which explores the uses of shortwave radio and its relationship with other communications devices. Field will be presented at Nocturne: Art at Night Festival. Launching at the artist talk; a catalogue with new text by Tom Sherman Video is a Perceptual Prosthetic.
Halifax in Hollywood
On the cusp of the 100th Anniversary of the first feature film made in Canada—Evangeline, shot in Halifax in 1913—the Dalhousie Art Gallery and the Atlantic Film Festival present a seven-film retrospective of Nova Scotians and a Nova Scotian story populating Hollywood’s Golden Age in the 1930s. Two stars—David Manners and Ruby Keeler—were once Tinseltown’s biggest stars.
Four From Sidney Poitier
Arguably the most important African American actor in screen history, Sidney Poitier appeared in a series of groundbreaking films in the 1960s that directly addressed issues of race in both the United States and Britain. The Dalhousie Art Gallery will show four of these movies on four Monday evenings as part of Black History Month.
