Nouvelle Vague Landmarks: The French New Wave and the reach for new cinematic expression

The French New Wave changed the cinema completely, from how we make movies to how we watch them. Initiated by film critics from the magazine Cahiers du Cinéma, the Nouvelle Vague led to films shot on the cheap about contemporary subjects on one hand, while playfully re-imagining genres such as Science Fiction and musicals on the other.

CFAT September Artist Talk Series: Bethany Riorden-Butterworth & Ella Tetrault

CFAT will host a talk given by CFAT Curators in Residence Bethany Riorden-Butterworth & Ella Tetrault will launch a digital exploration of their Fuller Terrace Lecture Series; a bi-weekly lecture held in the backyard of 2664 Fuller Terrace and is based around the idea of sharing stories and experiences with members of the community. The duo will also host a lecture with special guests from cultural groups who have adapted similar operational models of presentations.

Prismatic, CFAT and Saint Mary's University Art Gallery will partner for an artist talk and screening of Vancouver-based video artist Paul Wong. Part one: Paul Wong Double Bill: Two Sides of the Same Coin: program of 10 video shorts curated by Winnipeg-based curator J.J. Kegan McFadden entitled home-style. Part two: an artist talk on the artist's recent projects where Wong will also discuss a recent curatorial project, THE LONG TIME, an exhibition and publication featuring recent work of Lisa Steele & Kim Tomzcak.

CFAT September Artist Talk Series: Melanie Colosimo & Michael McCormack & Tom Sherman

13 September, 2012

CFAT Local Artist Resident, Melanie Colosimo has been working on a video animation project using miniatures and paper cut-outs. Colosimo's artwork explores themes of reflective nostalgia and displacement. CFAT's local electronics resident Michael McCormack created Field, which explores the uses of shortwave radio and its relationship with other communications devices. Field will be presented at Nocturne: Art at Night Festival. Launching at the artist talk; a catalogue with new text by Tom Sherman Video is a Perceptual Prosthetic.
